A great time

By | BAIMP, Personal | No Comments

It’s been an awesome few days what with finishing all my degree work and being up in london for a great graduation show. Check out www.screengrab09.com. Even having some possible investment into spots Keny

I have had about six potential employers show interest in http://spotsenya.com and the way it is all rounded from design to functionality especially my branding and photography. Check it out and tell me what you think.

It’s going to be great to to keep in contact over the next year with the industry even though I am going to be doing a gap year as a teaching assistent in bath at Monkton.

Has any one got any tips how to keep in contact with industry people.

I am sorry there has been such a delay in blog posts over the last few months.

Ooh and if you are in london cone to brick lane and see our screen grab show at the old Truman brewery.

Here’s a few pics of my time in london. It has so much to offer. From the new to the old.

Thinking of what whilst flying?

By | BAIMP, holliday, Me | No Comments

Well if you are reading this you have manage to catch me whilst I’m over the English channel on our decent to London Heathrow. I’m sitting just behind the engines and they have been roaring a sollom song the who journey.

It’s been a good flight and I have managed to get some sleep I did try and sleep on the floore for a bit but that was interupted quite suddenly as it was not permitted on flights.

I write with a sense of anticipation for this new year as it’s is only about 5 months until I an finished all it formal education. Before I can get to excited I have to complete a 100000 word dissertation and complete my spots Kenya project.

The plan is to work hard now on the dissertation an get a good chunk done. Whilst working at least 2 days a week on spots Kenya.

It’s probably going to be a rather hectic few months but God willing I can and I will make it.

I was in church and the pastor was speaking on being expectant an having a expectancy for what the Lord wants to do and has planned for us. It was bassed on Isaiah 30 v 18. It is just really important to have a hope and aim and I am praying that mine would more and more be in the Lord and not in my own strength.

Well we are just flying though some clouds about to land me thinks. We have been prepped that it is minus 3 which is making me cold just think about it. At least it will cool my sun tan.

Ok landing is iminant so I don’t really want to loose my iPhone as we break.

It’s been great.

I’m going to get this out whilst in the air. Yup there you go.

Landed now sorry.

Spots Kenya Project Synopsis

By | BAIMP, Spots Kenya | No Comments

Spots Kenya is a holistic response to any place or location based in Kenya.  The notion of a “Spot” shall be based on a circumscribed area or allocated location.

There will be two levels of spots. That of the general location for example a shopping centre and then the exact spots defined within that area. Tags and categories will be able to be created in these spots to identify and create a large network of regions. An example of this is simply having Hotel spots or Eating spots as a tag this will be separated by location categories such as Nairobi this will then be categorised filtered accordingly

The application of this is to provide simple information and resources about different spots and allow users and businesses to interact through the social website.

Kenya is expanding and developing country that has incredible opportunities in the realm of new media. Tourism and Exports of Tea Coffee and Flowers are the main sources of income. As a rapidly expanding middle class emerges people are also interacting more with the entertainments of Kenya. This need highlights the need to have a service that enables and empowers people to interact on the web community.
This will also appeal to tourists and visitors as they plan to travel to Kenya.
The spots branding will be there to engage people to think up various spots that they have visited and would like to visit or would even not like to visit. The spots brand is not limited to just a web service but a viral and merchandise campaign of promotional content such as stickers, t shirts, badges, flyers and other viral videos and posters.
The expansion of this could stretch into an office being opened in order to process and manage this like a travel agent or estate agent.
A host of traditional social networking features such as user profiles, geo tagging, video and photography shall be incorporated. With the ability to share and collaborate across a host of platforms such as flickr , panoramia, twitter, google maps, and blogging based platforms.
The concept of each spot shall have 3 main elements to it.
1.    A featured section – which would be created by the admin (me in this case)
2.    A users section – created by a user  and incorporating the social aspects
3.    A corporate or sponsored section – this would allow a company to use this as a point of sale or promotion for their spot. This shall not be a main feature just a section to allow for income and money to be generated by the spots.

The featured spots that I will be coving will be based in Nairobi as this is the hub of economic growth and easily accessible to me. I would like to cover two areas one is the aspect of restaurants or eating spots the other will be hotels. At least 5 Features of each genre shall be covered.

Featured spots will consist of a text review and as series of photographic shots including panoramic views and a video review that gives a light hearted experience of the area.

Ethur Presentation and Interview

By | BAIMP, Cool Things, Design, Issues | No Comments

I have been working on and pitch for part of my professional studies module at Uni. We have chosen to do a company called Ethur they are a missional based creative interactive media organisation that work on in house ideas that they have conceptualised along with other peoples ideas. They take a more direct low budget but high production value approach to producing.

Deadly Viper on youtube

We had the privilege of interviewing Mike Foster the Founder of the Ethur and were able to talk for over half an hour on all sorts of issues.

  • Ideas are crucial to everything but unless you create that idea and you put Meat on the bones as such they are pointless. I felt really challenged by this as i tend to get allot of good ideas but i don’t actually put these into action or even get them onto paper sometimes. So consequently i am going to try and get all my ideas down on my blog so at least people can then chase me up and see them. The question is what if people steal them and do them instead of me.. well i geuss that is fair enough if i haven’t been bothered to do them and maybe they will do it even better. Oops ranting on a bit…
  • Relationships are crucial when forming a client base as these are people who you can go back to time and again and offer new ideas and work. These have to be based on integrity and trust.
  • Scope schedule budget; these are the production principles that they use in each project and are really simple but powefull

Deadly Viper Charter Assassin is what we talk with Mike. It is such an amazing project as it seems like a huge budget site and idea especially with the book they have put out. I don’t think that it is fair to say, with asking Mike, the budget of the project. Though i can say that it is extremely low compared to what a publishing house or for profit company would ahve spent easily 5 times as much.

The book, that by the way they gave out thousands (10,000) of which is so crazy but amazing, seems awesome.

They used 5 graphic designers that were sourced across the US using the internet and facebook. They also used people from their affiliated media company Plain Joe Studios that mike worked for as the senior creative director.

They have also done some really simple initiives one of is Junky Car Club

I think that if i could do what they are doing with such integrity and passion and able to just get work out there so quickly but with such high standard and values, I would be a happy bunny but sadly it does not happen over night and takes a while to learn and build up links so thank you Ethur.

PS Keith Mason my good friend did the interview but i feel like i know Mike now as have listened to the Interview so many times

PSS I shall ask Mike if i can put some clips of the interview up on this post..
